Rosestar peered out of her den, a soft yawn rippling out of her mouth before she shook the moss from her fur. She stepped out her den, which was located under the roots of a large pine tree. She bared her fangs slightly as she peered up at the sun, noting the large clouds that were gathering around.
Her beautiful silky white fur stood out against the earthy muds and browns. She was a small cat but even from afar, you could tell she knew how to succesfully use her claws and tear out your throat with a simple swipe. Lashing her tail, she turned around, sniffing the breezing carefully.

As his dark form moved through the territory, NightShade was like a shadow. It was this skill, above all else, that had earned him his name. The suffix "shade" was granted to him for his ability to faze in and out of view, melding with the darker parts of the earth to hide himself. It was a talent he had nearly perfected. An unsettling ability, to be sure, as he was a viciously effective hunter and warrior as a result.
The deputy was returning from a long patrol, and even in his fatigue and boredom he was graceful and subtle, his paws falling swiftly and purposefully. In the distance, his clan leader's pale fur dazzled him from between the trees. He caught glimpses of her yawn and shake, and a smirk flitted across his face. It was dangerous to catch RoseStar off guard, so he made and effort to alert her to his presence with a bit of extra noise. He snapped a twig, rustled the undergrowth, and finally purred her a welcome as he poured out of the shadows before her.
"My lady," he greeted her, smiling silkily.

The ghostly female turned her head toward the noise, regarding her deputy with pale, crimson like eyes. "Good morning Nightshade. Done stalking through the shadows?" She ask, her eyes regarding him with amusement. Her eyes flying across his black fur, and her nose twitching as if trying to smell anything on him. Oh no, she did not trust her deputy but grudgingly respected him, for he had the same cold, ice heart as her.
She resisted the urge to laugh at him before turning toward the food-pile, her eyes falling on the very small pile of fresh-kill. She padded forward, nosing through the fresh-kill and tossing the rotten ones out, hearing a pleasant thump as one rotten fell close to Nightshade. Turning, she stared hard at her deputy. "Wish to go hunting with me, Nightshade?" Rosestar meowed, looking at him as if daring for him to say no.

His eyes flashed as she spoke, his expression amused but resigned. He dipped his head respectfully. "Am I ever?" he replied, his charming smile unaltered. He watched her move gracefully to the food pile and rummage through it - his nose twitched as the scent of rotting carcasses drifted towards him. As she flung the more unsavory morsels aside, very nearly hitting him with a particularly distasteful one. He struggled to keep his expression passive as she regarded him haughtily. "As you wish," he agreed, "Nothing would please me more. I see our food stores have been depleted."

Rosestar was watching his impression carefully, almost laughing when he tried to keep his face still. She padded past him, flicking his nose with her white tail. "Let's go then." She meowed behind her shoulder, trotting out of the entrance of camp. She glanced behind her shoulder to make sure the large tom was following before trudging on, her paws landing cautiously and quietly on the hard floor. The wind changed direction, bringing the smell of a blue-bird to her scent-glands.
The female crouched quietly, waving her tail behind her toward Nightshade, telling him to go hunt as she vanished silently in to the thick foliage. She quickly followed the scent, soon spotting a bright blue trying to tug a worm out of the ground. Rosestar darted outward, lunging forward, her white paws landing on the bird's neck. A loud snap filled the silent air, making her let out a purr of satisfication. Yes, her white fur stood out brightly against the green and brown hues, but she made up for that with sharp hearing, quickness, and her sense of smell.

"Hmph. Do I EVER get to leave camp anymore...?" Mistpaw sighed, dark blue eyes practically emotionless, but her voice had a hint of boredom and sadness to it.

He followed his leader as she bid him and at her command sank back into the shadows, tracing the contours of the foliage, clinging to the tree trunks and roots. They had seperated, but he heard her make her kill. The violent rustling of the underbrush and the crack of a breaking bone caused an unsettling smile to cross his face.
He crouched down quietly, slinking forward, towards a swath of open grass, only a dozen feet wide, where a small family of robins were basking in the sun and looking for food. They seemed strangely calm, considering RoseStar's kill had seemed so near and loud to NightShade. His brow furrowed, the tom crept carefully to the edge of the sunbathed clearing and with a well-aimed pouce, caught one bird in his mouth and one beneath his paw. Tightening his jaws, he laid the first to rest and then gathered the second one in his teeth and ended its life as well.
They were rather small, probably still young, but it was a satisfying kill. Two birds with one stone. Feeling confident and suddenly ravenous, he returned swiftly to camp, his prizes held high.

Rosestar sat in the middle of the camp, glancing behind her shoulder to see Nightshade enter the camp. "Good job." She meowed, though her voice didn't sound very congratulating. She nudged her prey into the fresh-kill pile, still sitting.

The deputy dipped his head in a small bow and deposited his kills in the same pile. "It was mere luck that I was able to get them both," he admitted. "And they are smaller than your catch, to be certain. But I thank you." He yawned, his golden eyes closing and opening slowly, luxuriously. He stretched and seated himself near his leader. "Shall I go on an additional patrol?" he inquired. "Perhaps to the East?"

Rosestar waved her tail, thinking about it. She tilted her head side-ways, her muscles feeling quite wary today, but no matter that. "Hmm... yes. I'll go with you." She glanced at Mistpaw, who seemed so absorbed in her thoughts. "If you wish." She added swiftly.

Smiling politely, the tom nodded. "Nothing would please me more," he replied. "I will admit that my morning patrol was rather dull with the lack of company." He turned his handsome face to the East, trying to choose their path and then nodded once before rising to his paws and shaking out his coat. "M'lady," he said, gesturing before him. And then he padded forward for her to follow.

Rosestar's nose twitched slightly, resisting the urge to roll her eyes as she followed him. She quickened her pace until she was shoulder to shoulder with her.
